The Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer isn’t just any thermometer. It’s a smart thermometer.
What makes a thermometer smart?
A smart thermometer has the ability to connect with a mobile phone or other Bluetooth capable device. This can be extremely useful if you want to share information about the readings with, for example, a family member or doctor. In the case of the Kinsa smart thermometer, this title means so much more.
Once you download the free (we love free!) Kinsa app, this thermometer has the ability to connect with almost any device– from iPhone, to Samsung, to Droid, and many others. With this astounding range in compatibility, it can connect to almost anyone’s smartphone.
The app also possesses the unique ability to automatically save the dates on which the readings were taken. This is useful when communicating with a doctor about exactly when your child’s temperature was last taken, which makes you look like a parenting ninja.
It can even give you advice on how to treat your child or yourself. You can create multiple profiles, so you don’t get information mixed up. This will be a helpful feature when you haven’t slept in days. This app is so hi-tech that it can track your symptoms and diagnose you.
Although on occasions it can be slow to connect to your device, it comes remarkably close to being a digital doctor. Obligatory disclaimer here: Please do not use this thermometer as a substitute for a doctor’s advice. When in doubt, call the pediatrician.
As a parent, I know how hard it is to get a sick child, especially with younger children, to hold still long enough to take their temperature. Although not always spot on, the Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer can take readings in just one second! At first I was skeptical about this speed, but surprisingly, this claim is 100% true, making this one of the fastest thermometers I have seen by far!
Celsius and Fahrenheit
Unlike most thermometers, the Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer can take temperatures in fahrenheit and celsius. There is a switch on the back that allows you to toggle back and forth between the two. You can also do so on the app.
Coverless and easy to clean
Another unique feature is the coverless approach. Which prevents you from having to constantly swap and dispose of the covers. Simply clean with a wet washcloth, or cotton ball, and 75% alcohol and it is ready for another use. It is water resistant, not waterproof, so be careful when cleaning.
This product is the recipient of Best of Baby Tech Awards 2016’s The Bump winner, Cribsie awards 2016 winner, and National Parenting Product Awards 2016 winner.
The benefit of using an ear thermometer
When positioned properly ear thermometers, or tympanic thermometers are comfortable as well as quick for adults and children alike. They are not recommended for use on infants though. However, if you need to take a reading on a young infant, pull the ear back and down for a better reading. If you want to be sure that you have the correct temperature clean the ear canal before use because ear wax can throw off the reading.
Overall, this quick and easy to use smart ear thermometer is very advanced and I would highly recommend it.
