Today I am going to show you how to start a WordPress blog using Blue Host.

Blogging is a great way to earn an income from anywhere in the world. Blogging will allow you the freedom to have more time with your family and the security of knowing they are taken care of financially.

This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase an item or service through any of my links, I will earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Getting set up is quick and inexpensive. I love Blue Host, so I will be walking you through using their service to begin your blog. Follow along with me to see exactly how easy it is!

Go to Blue Host. I have partnered with Blue Host to get you the very best deal. Clicking through my link will get you hosting for as little as 3.95 per month, as well as a completely free domain name.  From here you will click the big green “Get Started” button on the homepage.

At this point you may be wondering “Why not use a free blogging service?” Just don’t. Below are just a few of the reasons why you should choose to pay for hosting.

  1. You are not in control when you use a free blogging platform. There are rules on what methods can be used to monetize your blog (i.e. you will make less money). You don’t want rules. You want complete and total freedom.
  2. Free platforms are not as reliable as self hosted sites.  I have heard of entire sites disappearing overnight.
  3. Self hosted sites are much more professional in both name and appearance.
  4. Google ranks self hosted blogs higher than those hosted on a free platform.
  5. A self hosted blog will allow you more storage and design options.

Since you are just getting started, the basic plan will be plenty for your needs, and at 3.95 a month, it can’t be beat. Click the green “select” button at the bottom of the basic column.

Type your new domain name into the box that says “new domain”. You should give this a lot of thought before deciding because once it is done, it is forever. Choose something that is easy to spell and remember– the catchier the better. Always go with the .com extension if at all possible. Dot com has been around for 32 years and when you hear someone say “www”, you naturally expect to hear .com at the end.

At this point, you will be entering your account information and choosing your package. Plans start at 3.95/month for 36 months and go up to 5.95 per month for 12 months. You can see on my screen that I chose the 12 month option. That is 71 dollars to start a new business. Not too shabby! It is about the same as a cup of coffee each month and you will be set for at least a year.

After entering your payment information and agreeing to terms and conditions, you will be able to finalize the purchase of your new site.

Once your purchase is complete, you will receive a welcome email from Blue Host detailing the next steps in setting up your blog. Your welcome email will contain access to the cPanel. Once you are in the cPanel, you will choose “One Click Install.”

Then, click on the WordPress icon on the next page located under “Blogs”.

Click on the “Start” button. This will begin the installation. Next, you will need to select the super awesome domain name you chose from the dropdown menu.

Now, you will see “Advanced Options.” This is where you choose your username and password for your WordPress website. You should choose something unique, that is not likely to be guessed by hackers. When your site is big and famous (because why wouldn’t it be?), you will have mean people wanting access to your site. Don’t give them the satisfaction of choosing an easy username and password. Be sure to write it down somewhere once you have decided!

Choose to “automatically create a new database”.

The final step is “Install now”.

Done! You are now the proud owner of your very own blog. You did it!
