Today I want to share with you these super cute Darth Vader cupcakes that my daughter made this weekend.
You can pick up most of the supplies from the grocery store or Hobby Lobby, but there were a few things that I needed to order from Amazon:
Miniature red glow sticks
The plastic holders are from Publix. My daughter bakes cupcakes for events fairly often , and our Publix bakers charges 1.50 per holder. They are much easier to use than the cardboard holders from Hobby Lobby.
We bought the dark chocolate melts from Hobby Lobby, but black would have worked well too.
She used Super Red gel dye in the cake batter to make red strawberry cupcakes instead of the usual pink color.

Melt the candy on low for 30 seconds at a time. Stop and stir after each interval because the candies will appear solid until stirred.
Melt until it pours easily.
Be be careful not to overfill the molds.
Tap on the counter to evenly fill the mold and to prevent air bubbles.
Throw them in the fridge until solid. I have no idea how long this took because my daughter did everything. I would say 30 minutes max.
Bake strawberry cupcakes while preparing your Darth Vader toppers.
She used this recipe.
Easy and delicious strawberry cupcake recipe
- 1 white cake mix
- 3 ounces strawberry jello
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 10 ounces frozen strawberries thawed and drained
Mix dry ingredients
Add wet ingredients
Mix until smooth
Add 1/4 cup batter to each cupcake liner
Bake at 350 degrees 15-18 minutes
She added two teaspoons of Super Red gel dye to the batter when mixing to achieve a bright red color. Darth Vader wouldn’t look quite right on a pink cupcake.
She used this dye free black frosting.
Frost the cupcakes using an open star tip.
Don’t worry about the frosting not being perfect. The Darth Vader heads and light saber will cover everything well.
Top with Darth Vader.
Just before your event, activate the glow sticks and add them in at an angle.
