This is the best traditional lasagna recipe I have ever made! I have made it for many events and family gatherings, and everyone always loves it. I don’t even glance at new lasagna recipes because this is the only one I ever need.


I didn’t let this rest after baking because the kids wanted to eat it ASAP.

The key to having servable, pretty lasagna is to let it rest for 15 minutes after baking. That never happens at my house because the kids are always begging to eat it.

You can make this gluten free by using these Tinkyada gluten free noodles. I have used gluten free noodles before, and no one noticed the difference. Vitacost usually has the best deal on Tinkyada. I stock up on all several types of Tinkyada gluten free pasta when I order it. It is a great product to have on hand.

People always ask what is better, ricotta or cottage cheese. In our house, cottage cheese wins every time. It is more moist and works really well with the parmesan. I hope your family enjoys this recipe as much as we have.

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef

3/4 tsp salt

1/8 tsp pepper

1 tsp basil

1/2 tsp oregano

1 small onion chopped

2 Tbsp. oil

16 oz tomato sauce

1/2 cup water

8 oz shredded parmesan

1 lb cottage cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella

lasagna noodles

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Brown ground beef and onion in oil.

Drain fat.

Add water, spice, salt.

Bring to a boil, then reduce to simmer.

Cook noodles according to package directions.

Combine parmesan and cottage cheese.

Layer meat sauce, noodles, meat sauce, cheese mixture until your dish is almost full and meat sauce is on top.

Cover with two cups of shredded mozzarella.

Bake 30 minutes.

Let rest 15 minutes before serving.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1 chopped small onion
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • 16 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 8 oz shredded parmesan
  • 1 lb cottage cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 package lasagna noodles

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef and onion, drain fat.

  2. Add spices, water, and sauce, and bring to a boil. Decrease heat to simmer.

  3. Cook noodles according to package instructions. 

  4. Mix cottage cheese and parmesan cheese 

  5. In a 9 x 13 casserole dish, layer lasagna in this order: sauce, noodles, sauce, cheese mixture. When your pan is almost full and sauce is on top, cover with 2 cups of shredded mozzarella.

  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

  7. Let rest for 15 minutes.
