I really like that Aaptiv is on my phone and offers so much variety. No matter where I am in my home, I can turn on a quick workout. I can also change my mind easily. I sometimes end a workout if it is going to be full of plyometrics (not my fav). I can easily find another workout on the app without wasting a ton of time looking through DVDs.

Today is my 38th birthday. Physically, I feel great. I am feeling strong and have plenty of energy. I wish I could say I’m getting a lot done, but my toddler makes sure that never happens. Which brings me to my first point:

I know that Aaptiv is an audio fitness app, but with a toddler running around and three big kids constantly asking me questions, it is easy to lose my place.

When I am working out alone (rarely), I like having audio only. I don’t care to watch someone else exercise, especially after I have the hang of things. I like to listen to some motivating music and tune out everything else.

But when I am surrounded by chaos, like I was tonight, it is hard to keep up with it the instructor.

When you have only audio, it only takes one “Mom! Where are my shoes?” to miss important instructions like, “Time to switch legs!” This happened to me several times tonight.

I imagine for those who actually get to be alone and workout in different venues, this would be no big deal. For those of us who don’t even get to pee alone, I think it is a drawback.

It would be great if there was an outline of each workout, so you could see where you are within the workout. Or at least dual timers, so if you knew that you were going to do glute bridges for 30 seconds before moving to leg lifts, you could see the timer and not get lost.

Yesterday was arms, so today was glutes. I wanted to get my workout done fast so I could spend some time with my kiddos, so I chose Booty on the Pulse with Jennifer.

Aaptiv review

Booty on the Pulse was a quick and dirty workout that made my hamstrings burn within the first three minutes. One leg glute bridges are always torture (in a good way). I have never really done side planks before, so I need to practice those a bit.

Jennifer was more talkative than other instructors have been. While I really enjoyed the workout, I would have enjoyed it more if I could have listened to the music more.

I love that she managed to throw a quick stretch in at the end of this workout. It was a nice wrap up after the side planks.
